Connector MOQ, Lead Time and Custom Ordering: What to Actually Expect

If you're sourcing connectors for the first time, the first thing you want to know isn't a spec — it's "how many do I have to buy, and how long will it take". Fair question. Here's what to actually expect, straight.
## Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
For standard connectors, MOQ is usually around 100 pieces. But most manufacturers — us included — will send free samples (typically 5 pieces) so you can verify fit and quality before you commit to anything. Custom connectors have a higher MOQ because they involve tooling.
## Lead time
Standard products ship in about 3–7 business days. Custom OEM/ODM orders run roughly 15–30 days depending on complexity and quantity, and most shops can expedite if you're in a genuine rush. The honest advice: build the lead time into your schedule up front, because custom tooling can't be rushed without cutting corners.
## The custom ordering flow
Custom work goes: requirements → drawing or sample confirmation → tooling (if needed) → first samples → production. The drawing step is where mistakes happen, so be specific about pitch, pin count, plating and housing color.
## One thing worth knowing
Replacing a connector with an "equivalent" from another brand is usually faster and cheaper than a full custom — a lot of JST and Molex series have drop-in compatible alternatives. We do standard and custom connectors, pre-crimped assemblies, and free samples on standard parts. If you send us the part number or a photo, we can usually quote within a day.
